Quick fix

Update to patch 5.01. CD Projekt's notes say it fixed an issue where the "Automatically Apply Blade Oils" feature "would work only if enabled during the current game session." Patch 5.01 is out on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and CD Projekt says it is rolling out on Switch 2, with the Japanese version to follow after certification.

Why it happens

CD Projekt’s patch 5.01 notes name the bug: the “Automatically Apply Blade Oils” feature “would work only if enabled during the current game session.” Game8 describes the same fix as one for an issue “preventing Automatically Apply Blade Oils from working correctly after restarting the game.”

Patch 5.01 fixed it. The fix is in CD Projekt’s 5.01 notes for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and in its separate 5.01 notes for the Switch 2 version.

Fixes

Fix 1: Update to patch 5.01 (PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S)

On PC, patch 5.01 is out for the Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, Battle.net and Xbox Play Anywhere versions. It’s also out on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. CD Projekt posted it as live on Steam on 8 October 2026. Update the game to get the blade oils fix.

Game8 says hotfix 5.01b was released on 13 October 2026 for PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro.

Fix 2: Update to patch 5.01 (Switch 2)

CD Projekt’s post for the Switch 2 version says patch 5.01 is being rolled out to the majority of regions, with the Japanese version to follow once it passes certification. Nintendo Life’s report on the rollout is dated 19 October 2026 and says it started in most regions that day. The Switch 2 notes list the same blade oils fix under Gameplay.

If nothing works

If patch 5.01 isn’t on your Switch 2 yet, your region may not have it. CD Projekt’s Switch 2 post says the patch comes to the majority of regions first, and the Japanese version gets it once it passes certification.
