AnswerThe Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Can you go back to the old version of The Witcher 3 after the Remastered update?
Short answer
Yes, on Steam and GOG. CD Projekt's support article shows how to switch to the Classic version and back to the newest one. On the Epic Games Store it isn't possible, and the article gives no steps for PS5, Xbox Series or Switch 2. On its PC support page, CD Projekt gives full support only to the newest version.
On Steam
In the game’s Properties, open the BETAS tab and pick CLASSIC. Steam then downloads that version on its own.
To return to the newest version, select None in the same BETAS menu.
On GOG Galaxy
Set Beta Channels to Classic, and switch auto-updates off.
To return to the newest version, set Beta Channels to Disabled.
Epic Games Store and consoles
Copies bought on the Epic Games Store can’t go back to an older version. CD Projekt’s rollback article covers only Steam, GOG and the Epic Games Store, and gives no steps for PS5, Xbox Series or Switch 2.
Before you switch
On its PC support page, CD Projekt gives full support only to the newest version. It said on 1 September 2026 that existing saves would work with the Remastered upgrade, but neither that statement nor the rollback article says whether Remastered saves load in the Classic version (what happens to old saves in Remastered).
Version and platform notes
Checked against CD Projekt’s support article and its patch notes up to patch 5.01 (October 2026). Hotfix 5.00c, dated 1 October 2026 for the Steam version, fixed an issue where the Classic (1.32) version couldn’t be launched. The steps on this page are for the PC versions on Steam and GOG.
