FixAce Combat 8: Wings of Theve
How do you stop Ace Combat 8 crashing on PC?
Quick fix
Raise Windows virtual memory. Bandai Namco's notice of 16 October 2026 says 16 GB or more if your PC has 32 GB of RAM, and 32 GB or more if it has 16 GB. It calls this temporary general guidance that may cut certain memory-related crashes, not all of them.
Why it happens
Bandai Namco says the game’s memory use is currently a significant issue, and its notice links certain crashes to memory. In its internal testing, PCs with about 48 GB or more of RAM and virtual memory combined generally had fewer of these memory-related crashes.
Fixes
Fix 1: Raise virtual memory, a temporary workaround (PC)
Set Windows virtual memory to at least 16 GB if your PC has 32 GB of RAM, or to at least 32 GB if it has 16 GB. Bandai Namco gives these numbers as general guidance while it works on a permanent fix, and says they may reduce certain crashes but won’t stop all of them.
If nothing works
On 2 October 2026 Bandai Namco asked PC players to report crashes with the error code and their PC specifications. Update 1.01.002, dated 20 October 2026, lists no memory fix.
Related questions
Does the virtual memory fix work for Error 01?
Not always. Bandai Namco's notice doesn't name Error 01, and Steam players tie that message to different causes, including memory and GPU drivers.
Did update 1.01.002 fix the memory crashes?
Its notes, dated 20 October 2026, list no memory or virtual memory fix.
Should you download an Error 01 fix program?
Be careful. A Steam forum poster warns that an Error 01 fix .exe on GitHub from an unknown account looks like malware. Bandai Namco's own workaround is the virtual memory setting.
